MISSION STATEMENT

IT STARTED WITH "I CANT BREATHE"

It was a cry that lifted the veil for some and was a reminder to others of the injustice felt by BIPOC all over the US. In Lynn, it was the cry that ignited our local movement, demanding our city leaders take a hard look at its own complicity.

At first a grassroot movement, Prevent The Cycle’s only purpose was to call attention to the inequities in our city.

However, we soon realized that we needed to do more. Despite our success the underrepresented community members’ energy behind the movement, we still saw few community members joining the cause.

Prevent The Cycle seeks to provide the tools needed in order for our black and brown community to become self advocates and the education that will help them better understand how to use them.

POLICY

POLICE REFORM

PTC created a petition demanding changes to policing in Lynn. We are currently working in partnership with other organizations to push many of the policies forward.

body cameras

Since April 2020, Lynn police are now required to have body cameras while on the job.

HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION

Successfully advocated for updates to Lynn Police Use of Force Policy.

UNARMED CRISIS RESPONSE

PTC demands the establishment of ALERT (the All Lynn Emergency Response Team) which will serve as an alternative to police by offering the Lynn community a team that will respond to certain calls unarmed and independent from police.
