The first in a series of events, we will dive into this experience through music, food and conversation. We will address topics that often hinder our ability to unify such as anti-blackness, colorism, views of African Americans and African immigrants.
Understanding how we identify ourselves and others is important because race is used to establish and justify systems of power, privilege, disenfranchisement, and oppression. How we identify ourselves and others comes in great part, from white supremacist culture that aims to keep us divided among ourselves in order to maintain dominance.
